Breast Implants and A Bra That Fits: The Hunt Is On!
By Marianne Guarena
Is it me or is having the perfect fitting bra with implants an endangered species?? Granted, six years ago a 32DDD bra was unheard of but you'd think by now manufacturer's would get a clue. I had bras custom fit and sewn for me, at a price of course. But off the rack? Forget about it!
Frederick's, Victoria's Secret, Macy's, Nordstrom, K-Mart, wherever! NO 32DDD or 32F. Custom made, oh that will put you back a few hundred for a really good one with underwire and a push up model with removable cookie pads. So I found the Gossard Superboost Satin Padded Plunge (D+) Underwire Bra in 32F and larger sizes; off the rack no less! They were made for natural boobs so they fit a little weird, but better than any other bra I have had that actually looks cute. And at least the bandsize is small and the cup size is large, and it comes in pink, nude, black, red, you name it. The price averages about $41.00US/£23.00 at the time of this writing.
When you first get your implants, you want to go buy bras so badly but honestly you have to be patient. Your breasts will change as you heal and they need to relax, drop, fluff--whatever you want to call it. You will more than likely wear a larger bras size once this occurs, as opposed to how you may appear initially post-op. Plus, instead of them being up to your neck, they will become more natural looking, comfortable and less tender. So after about 3 months you can really go about your bra-shopping business.; unless of course you have full sub-muscular placement and need to drop more.
Getting properly fitted is also very important. Having gone around the bra-buying block with implants for 6 years since the time of this article I can tell you how much of an utter pain in the cup this can be, not to mention expensive. Please see our Bra Sizing & Bra Tips Section for more info, you'll be glad you did. if not, you may wind up with an improperly fitting bra and trust me on this one girls, you don't want this to happen. You may need a lift sooner than you think and why pay all that money for great looking breasts if you are going to ruin them from lack of support.
Also, be sure to inquire whether or not your surgeon has approved of your wearing underwires. I personally love underwires, but then again my boobs are bigger than my head--I need 'em! Sleeping in a bra is also a very good idea, and usually one that has real support instead of squishing them into your armpits while you sleep.
Good luck bra hunting!
