Breast Augmentation Costs

Breast augmentation cost varies significantly based on the plastic surgeon, the type of breast implant you choose, the medical facility, what region of the country you are in and whether or not you are having an additional surgery such as a breast lift performed at the same time.

The total cost for breast augmentation with implants ranges from $5,000 to $15,000. Revision breast augmentation is often more costly than primary breast augmentation, as it is often a lengthier, more complicated surgery.

The national average plastic surgeon fee for breast augmentation with silicone gel implants is about $3,800, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The plastic surgeon fee for breast augmentation with saline implants averages around $3,500.

Breast Augmentation Cost: Adding It All Up

Breast augmentation surgery cost tends to include the surgeon's fee, anesthesia fee, operating room fee and implant fee (if applicable).

The national average plastic surgeon fee for breast augmentation with silicone gel implants is  about $3,800, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The plastic surgeon fee for breast augmentation with saline implants averages around $3,500. These numbers are just averages, meaning some surgeons charge more and others charge less.

The cost of breast implants ranges from $1,000 (saline) to $1,300 (silicone); the anesthesia fee is typically $600 to $800; and the facility fee can range from $800 to $1,200.

There are additional costs as well, such as medications and supplies (antibiotics, pain relievers, topical medications and surgical dressings), laboratory fees, blood tests and preoperative exams.

Breast augmentation costs do tend to be higher in urban areas such as Los Angeles or Manhattan because overhead is higher and surgeons there are in greater demand than in more rural areas.

During your consultation with your surgeon, get a list of what the breast augmentation surgery fee covers. If you are considering any additional procedures, be sure to ascertain the cost of those as well. For example, if you are combining breast augmentation with mastopexy, be sure to ask your surgeon about breast lift cost, too.

Breast Augmentation Surgery Financing Options

Health insurance rarely covers cosmetic breast augmentation surgery. However, if you are having breast reconstruction surgery with implants after breast cancer surgery, your insurer will likely cover these costs. Cosmetic surgeries can be financed. If the cost is prohibitive, ask your surgeon about your breast augmentation financing options.

Before booking your breast augmentation surgery, make sure you get the answers to two all-important questions:

  • What is included in the fee?
  • Are there any payment or finance plans available?

While cost is a major consideration, it should not be the deciding factor when choosing a breast surgeon. Selecting a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in all types of breast surgery is important and will go a long way toward ensuring the best possible outcome. Start your search for the right surgeon now.
